It's Shacket Season

Last weekend the sun came out in Dublin, and we were all running around like we were kids in a candy store trying to soak up some rays and basking in ankle bearing fashion. It's that time of year where you see a mix of clothing choices on the streets. While out in town, I saw a melting pot of fresh fake tanned legs in skirts, dresses, bronzed shoulders in bardot tops, sun kissed feet in strappy sandals, all the summer items we've been buying for weeks hiding in our closet in the hope we'd see a slither of sunshine. Conversely there were those that were still reluctant to truly believe spring had arrived, and had on their winter coats, scarves and boots. I on the other hand, joined the in between group and settled for exposed ankles, a light jacket and no scarf - mainly because my skin is akin to the colour of a ghost and i'm not very good a doing fake tan!

So I said I wore a light jacket, but what I really meant was I wore a shacket. For those that aren't familiar with this hybrid word, its a combo of "shirt" and "jacket". They mostly come in a khaki colour, have pockets and button up just like a shirt. It's a great in between season piece, as you can layer it all you want, wear it over a chunky knit, a tee, a dress, with jeans, shorts, skirts - you name it. It looks equally as good with trainers as it does with a pair of heels. I love any item that can be worn a thousand and one ways, and can help blur the lines between casual and dressed up. I try to buy pieces that are multi dimensional, and shy away from purchases that can be worn in one way or on one occasion.

My shacket is a bargain of a buy from Penneys/Primark, at only €16 it's true to size, and good quality. I've paired it with black skinny jeans, a black flowy blouse which you can't see and my fave checker board platform Vans (my comfiest casual shoes and i'm obsessed!). I've accessorised with a Gucci Soho cross body bag, to add that pop of colour to an otherwise very basic outfit, and my gold double chain medallion necklace from Mango. Oh and I can't forget about my fave buy this month - my Loewe sunglasses from TK Maxx! I hardly ever go there, but consider me now a convert.
